Watch the following video or follow along by reading the text below to learn more about My Favourite Life. I go through how My Favourite Life came about; how it’s evolving with the opening of our Self-Care store; and what’s next!
Can you tell us more about yourself?
I’m Tiffany, Founder and Creator of “My Favourite Life”. I’m originally from Toronto, Ontario, and moved to Vancouver, BC with my now husband over 11 years ago to pursue our careers. We have two beautiful children and a fur-baby cat whom we absolutely adore.
By trade, I’m a Human Resources Manager for a large automotive group. I’ve been in HR for almost 20 years and I specialize in creating HR departments from the ground up.
How did “My Favourite Life” come to be?
I follow a very successful crafter named Jennifer Maker and subscribe to her blog because I’m a Cricut owner and love to learn about how to make crafts for my kids.
In one of her email newsletters she wrote a post about starting a blog and that her mentor, Ruth Soukup from Live Well, Spend Less fame was going to do a Blog Bootcamp. I decided to join just for fun. I never thought of myself as a blogger, but I wanted to try and learn a new skill.
After the Bootcamp, I joined the Elite Blogging Academy and that’s when I formed “My Favourite Life”. It started off as a Mom blog – all of my early posts are related to Motherhood. But I chose the name “My Favourite Life” because I knew it would allow me more flexibility in terms of niche since our lives are multi-faceted.
Motherhood blog posts were first, what came next?
Well when I started to brainstorm blog post ideas, I realized that I could write about everyday life as well. That’s when it hit me that I could also incorporate my business knowledge in Human Resources, and also help working mamas land their dream career. This is when I started to refine my tagline to: Motherhood, Lifestyle, Career.
Who is your ideal audience?
Definitely working mothers, or stay at home moms who are looking to get back to the workforce. My recent posts are dedicated to moms who are just starting their careers, or those who are in mid-career and looking to transition. I started a Career Series that will take my audience through the proper steps in marketing themselves to potential employers.
What are you currently working on?
What is the self-care store and why did you decide to open one up?
It was at the start of self-isolation when I realized that I stopped taking care of myself. More out of lack of time than anything else. My son was home from daycare, so I was looking after him while also looking after my little girl. Before, I had my routine down-pat. J would take G to daycare, I would get myself ready for the day – wash my face, brush my teeth, change my clothes and put on makeup. I would feed L and we would head out for a walk, run errands, or just enjoy the weather. When we started to self-isolate all of that went out the window! I think there was a point where I didn’t get out of my PJ’s for almost 5 days straight!
That’s when I had to force myself to start thinking about self-care, and how to incorporate that back into my daily routine.
Self-care is defined as any activity that we deliberately do to take care of our mental, emotional and physical health. By practicing regular self-care, this will improve a person’s mood, reduce anxiety and is the key to a good relationship with yourself and with others.
I knew I already had a platform with My Favourite Life, and since my target audience was working mamas, who are in my opinion the people most indirectly impacted by the pandemic, I wanted to find a way to help Moms to take care of themselves. Offering Self-Care products like bath salts, essential oils, skincare and herbal supplements was one way for me to signal, “Hey Mama, remember to treat yourself and relax your tired mind and body.”
I think the store fits perfectly with my mission to help mamas live their favourite lives.
There are so many stores out there that sell self-care products. What makes “My Favourite Life” different?
I’ve been a skincare and general self-care junkie since I was a teenager. Every product in my store is one that I currently use or will use in the near future. I carefully select brands and products that meet my values: products that don’t contain parabens, sulphates, SLS or other harsh and potentially carcinogenic chemicals. Products that contain natural botanical ingredients and are organic whenever possible. And one of the most important aspects and one close to my heart, are products that have never been tested on animals. J and I are animal lovers and only support products that are cruelty-free.
What’s more is that for the rest of 2020, for every product sold, I will be donating $1.00 to Burnaby Hospital and will be dedicating it to the amazing nurses and doctors in the NICU.
The NICU is really a special place for your family.
Yes! L was born 2.5 months early and spent almost 60 days in the NICU. I wasn’t able to stay overnight with L, so knowing that she was in the best care possible gave me the peace of mind I needed to walk out of the hospital every day. That was the hardest part…leaving the hospital without your child feels so unnatural. But I could call the nurses anytime, and after a while, they knew to give me a run-down of L’s stats every morning as soon as I walked through the door. I haven’t seen the nurses since and I haven’t had a chance to properly show my gratitude, so to be able to give back in their name is the best way I know how.
What does the future hold for “My Favourite Life”?
We recently incorporated, so we are now an official business in the eyes of the government, which is exciting! Also, I plan on continuing my Career Series and will hopefully be launching something in that area. But more to come on that soon.
As for the store, I am always searching for amazing suppliers to partner with, so if you own a store that meets our values and standards, I would love to speak with you and possibly work with you.
In that same regards, my product review features on my blog are the most popular posts, so I’m also always looking for baby and mom-related products to review.
At the end of the day, if I can help even just one mama, I would feel like I succeeded in my mission.
As always, until next time, stay healthy and safe my friends!
